225 Russel Street

SUPPORTIVE HOUSING

Victoria, BC

The Russel Street project proposes to renovate and re-inhabit an existing warehouse and annex building into 40 self-contained, permanent, supportive residential homes. The facility will be operated by BC Housing for individuals who have experienced homelessness. The roof and a portion of the walls of the existing warehouse will be ‘pulled back to expose the supporting steel structure and a new high-performance wood frame building constructed within the shell. The open-air space between the new building and old warehouse walls will be landscaped to create a secure and sheltered “secret garden’ for residents. The previously hardscaped to the west of the building will be extensively landscaped to help restore the site’s ecology and provide meaningful noise mitigation for all community members.
