REGENERATIVE DESIGN STORAGE FACILITY

Kelowna, BC

EcoLock Urban Storage was a concept for a five-storey, 10,440 m² facility in Kelowna, British Columbia, in partnership with McLennan Design and EcoLock Storage. This innovative project redefines urban storage by integrating sustainable practices and community-focused spaces.

The facility combines personal storage solutions with a ground-floor co-working space that doubles as a venue for community events. This multifunctional approach fosters community engagement and offers educational opportunities related to sustainable living and lifestyle simplicity.

EcoLock is committed to environmental responsibility, aiming for Net Zero Energy Building Certification from the International Living Future Institute. The design incorporates advanced energy efficiency measures, including photovoltaic systems to offset electrical consumption. Notably, the design seeks innovative structural solutions for interior partitions by utilizing new products, such as, Just BioFiber Blocks—a patented technology that provides structural strength while sequestering carbon.

By addressing the evolving needs of urban residents who are embracing minimalist lifestyles and smaller living spaces, EcoLock offers a practical and sustainable storage solution. The project exemplifies a new paradigm in the storage industry, shifting from traditional consumerism to supporting sustainable urban living through thoughtful design and community integration.
