Shawnigan Lake School Centenary Project

MULTI-PURPOSE EDUCATIONAL RENOVATION + ADDITION

Shawnigan Lake, BC

This multi-year, multi-phase project in the heart of campus included the refurbishment of the historic main building and multiple additions. The original aspirations of the project were expanded in the initial stages of design, and a thorough analysis of the campus ecosystem revealed interstitial spaces where programming was nestled in. The main building was continuously occupied and spaces were reconfigured and repurposed, including the advancement of new learning technologies and dynamic learning environments. A learning support centre accommodates individual students, while a student centre brings the student community together. The library addition is the centrepiece of the campus with traditional timber construction, multi-use learning spaces and strong connections to indoor/outdoor learning environments. The building is graciously daylit through a transparent perimeter and skylight glazing.
